Meet Matt, a Clinical Research Associate at LeafLine Labs.
30-second elevator speech: I’m from Woodbury, Minnesota and studied neuroscience at the University of Minnesota, where I first worked on cannabinoid research as an undergraduate and shortly after graduation. After that, I worked as a scribe in emergency medicine, where I learned firsthand about the worsening opioid crisis and the daily challenges those with chronic illnesses face. I joined LeafLine in 2016 to help us understand the impact medical cannabis is having on our patients.
What does a typical day of work look like for you? I work on a variety of different projects, so no day is exactly the same for me, which is one of my favorite parts of my job. I have worked to set up internal studies to see how effective our medication is, coordinated research with local hospitals and health care providers, conducted market research, among a variety of other tasks that keep my days varied and interesting.
What is your favorite part about your job? I love that I get to work on collecting and quantifying evidence that shows the positive effect medical cannabis is having with our patients. Minnesota’s medical cannabis program combined with LeafLine’s pharmaceutical grade medical cannabis allows for a unique opportunity to study how cannabis can improve patient’s lives.
What are you passionate about? I am passionate about reducing the impact of the opioid crisis in Minnesota. Many of our patients have successfully replaced or tapered down on their opioid medications with the aid of medical cannabis, and the improved quality of life these patients have from eliminating or reducing their opioids drives me to continue my work.
Favorite way(s) to spend your free time: I enjoy running and spending time up north with my family.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? I hope to still be working at LeafLine, and look forward to seeing how the cannabis industry will change over the next decade.
Favorite Minnesota sports team(s): I am a lifelong Vikings fan despite the constant heartbreak.
What is your favorite Disney movie? Finding Nemo
